High, I am trying to construct scene rars that use compression.

So I need a folder with a rar executable in it, but I don't know what name you have to rename the rars, I sussed it out once-upon a time about 10 years ago, but I stopped collecting scene releases, but after trying it several times again more recently I couldn't remember how I got it going or what I had to rename the rars, can someone please explain it to me.

I think this might have something to do with it,

Usage: preprardir.exe [input dir] [output dir]
This tool will extract RAR executables in preparation for compressed RAR support for pyReScene.
Example usage: preprardir.exe Z:\rar\windows C:\pyReScene\rar

Options:
—version show program's version number and exit
-h, —help show this help message and exit
-b, —beta extract beta versions too

Hi all,
I'm trying to rebuild PS5 scene releases (the playable releases by DUPLEX, UNLiMiTED, LiGHTFORCE).
The biggest issue here is probably the format they come in after extraction, which are all loose folders and files.

I don't have the biggest knowledge about ReScene, whatever goes beyond finding the right RAR version and fiddling with mt-set is a huge unknown for me.
I managed to rebuilt smaller releases, which only contain one file (fixes) or PS4 releases (which are also only one installable package file).

WinRAR 5.91 without any mt-set option did the job for Metaphor.ReFantazio.Update.v1.13.PS4-DUPLEX - I'd be surprised if they use different versions/settings for all their releases.
No matter what I do or try, it just doesn't click - I tried my luck with smaller releases first like:

Record.of.Lodoss.War.Deedlit.in.Wonder.Labyrinth.PS5-DUPLEX
Arkanoid.Eternal.Battle.PS5-DUPLEX
Severed.Steel.PS5-DUPLEX

So I was wondering, if anyone of you tried the same and maybe had any luck or could push me into the right direction here.
Any hints what else I could try would be appreciated!

Would be awesome to reconstruct them.

Thank you and regards,
iCEQB

Hi! I was really frustrated because I spent days trying to get srrGUI to work with my FLAC files (when creating the .srr file). It worked fine with other audio files downloaded from the internet, but not with mine.

I finally realized the issue was the VORBIS TAG in the title: What Is Love (7" Mix). It contained double quotes. Once I removed them, it worked perfectly!

Is there any documentation regarding this issue? What if I actually want to keep the double quotes in the tag?

https://github.com/jaloji/pyautorescene/tree/master

pyautorescene automates the process of returning un-rarred scene releases back into their former glory. It makes use of PyReScene and srrDB to make the whole process has hands off as possible.

With this fork, you can log into your srrDB account to bypass the daily download limit for .srr files. The redirection for srrxx is automatic, so you don't need to worry about it.

It is now also possible to add only NFO/SFV/Sample/Proof/Subs files if you already have scene releases but no longer have the unrarred .mkv files. You can rebuild missing files as long as they are in the same directory.

Additionally, you can search unrarred files by CRC to check if an .srr file is available or if the CRC is valid, for example.

If the script crashes for any reason everything done is print inside autorescene.txt with and without -v.

Hi there
I was trying to reconstruct a mkv sample file, and ReSample gave me the error: Unable to locate track signature for track 3. Aborting.
I got the original sample file anyway, and when I compared it with the main video file, I notice that the track 3 is a subtitle track, and somehow, when they created the sample file, they applied zlib compression to those subtitles. So, the content of the tracks is different in each file.
I think a possible solution, for future versions of ReSample, could be to save the entire track blocks/frames inside the srs file, only for tracks that can not be located in the main video file. This would be applicable only to small tracks such as subtitle tracks, to maintain a relative small size.
Of course, this only could be done if the main video file is available and the -c option is specified when the srs file is created.

Hello all! I created an album years ago and CMS released a scene release for it. Long story short, I had a ton of health issues I had to deal with and was pretty much not able to do much of anything and when I finally checked my old computer and old External they both where busted, would love to get my hands on a copy of this rip. Someone on srrdb uploaded the SRR file for it (I will post the link below).

If anyone has any idea of a IRC channel, website, torrent or FTP that might have old CMS releases I would be more than happy.
The name of the album and release is: VA-Katalist_Presents-Styles_United-2002-CMS

The SRR website link is: https://www.srrdb.com/release/details/VA-Katalist_Presents-Styles_United-2002-CMS

If anyone can point me in the right direction of getting a copy of this scene release I would be over the moon.
I just started learning about .rss files and I don’t know all about it yet. I have some .rss files that I’m guessing, contain some videos. I’ve been able to extract them with another extracting tool, that would extract the files as an MP4 or MKV, but the files would have no data after extracting. On the site that I got them, I saw that the files were over 1GB.

I’m on Mac as well and I haven’t seen your Rescene application being able to download on Mac. What could I do to open my files on Mac, is there a version of your app available for macOS? Also, would the actual Rescene app do what I did but extract the files with actual data on them?

Hello

Sometimes certain elements like rar-files or archived files are missing in SRR.
For example on https://www.srrdb.com/release/details/INSIDE.eShop.NSW-BigBlueBox, this informations are missing.
Is this related to a badly generated SRR file?
Is it possible to upload a news version for the same release?

Thanks.

I had this all working fine and used it for years on my old Windows 8.1 machine. I'm on a new Windows 11 machine and I can't get anything to work. I've installed Python and set my PATH. When I run retag in Powershell from the unzipped directory it just loads to a new line, without trying to do anything. The same thing happens with srr and srs.

When I try to use Command Prompt I get an error that, "The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCR100.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem." I've verified MSVCR100.dll is on my system, it's actually in several directories including system32. I even reinstalled the C++ redistributables (2010 and 2015-2022).

Not sure what the issue is, anyone have any ideas?

Missing volumes?

I found the release for an anime I was looking for and I tried to reconstruct the srr into a rar file, but while I got a mkv file that doesn't want to be extracted, it requires the next volumes. Which aren't in the rar file I got.

I got the exe files, but as the command line was hard to figure out, I picked srrgui.exe to reconstruct the rar file. From the website and from the program, it tells me about the sfv, the nvo and the srs files, and it also tells me about the original rar file as well as the r00 to r22 files, but as soon as I start the process, the rar file shows up without the other parts.

I figured that maybe it was downloaded all at once, but when I try to extract the mkv file inside, it asks for the next volume, which isn't anywhere in my computer. I feel like I missed a step, as I'm completely new to this, but those being missing, I can't open the mkv file at all. I just downloaded the latest winrar and am not sure I follow the tutorials properly (kind of a visual learner on this one, wished there was a video tutorial on how to do it).

Does anyone know what I must do for all the volumes to show up so that I can properly get my file extracted?

Hi all,

I'm trying to rebuild Splinter.Cell.Chaos.Theory-RELOADED but non of the RAR versions (184 version tried) match the packer that RELOADED used.
I read that RELOADED has some kind of custom packer and that this issue has been resolved in 2016 (https://bitbucket.org/Gfy/pyrescene/issues/107/hi2u-and-reloaded-rar-files).
Is there any flag that forces pyRescene to try the RELOADED modifications while testing for a compatible RAR version?
I saw in the source code that it was tested with Street.Fighter.V-RELOADED which was released 10 years after Splinter.Cell.Chaos.Theory-RELOADED - so I hoped that Splinter Cell won't be an issue.
Currently I don't know what to do from here :(

I think this is great tools but i also feel that it is very messy.

It is old aswell. Perhaps an overlook and an update would be in place? Make it more easier, a one package install and you have everything setup. Both windows, linux and mac.

Hello, everyone.

I am looking for some information or documentation on how to manually reScene unpacked scene release.

What I know that a command prompt is definitely used with some specific switches to create rar files.
Example:

rar_version.exe a -m1 -mdG -mt4 -vn -v250000000b release_name.rar release_name.iso
rar_version.exe a -m1 -mdG -s- -ds -mt1 -vn -o+ -ep -idcd -vn -v11766322b release_name.rar release_name.iso

Yet, CRC32 sums never match when I try to verify obtained results with SFV files stored at srrDB.

Does anyone can provide a few examples of such a command prompt that are typical for a Scene Group (e.g. Fairlight or Codex)? Or guide where I can find them.
I know that srr files actually contain some hints of what RAR version (Windows, Linux etc.) was initially used for packing a Scene Release and sometimes it is necessary to play with switches (for example, changing numbers for: -mt1 or -mt3 etc) to guess the correct command prompt.
However, I am so confused of what other switches could look like and a number of tries the guessing process may take. Not to mention that different RAR versions add even more variability for manual reScening.

I have been using srrGUI / pyReScene for some time and know that sometimes to find a good RAR is a pain in the neck. However, due to inability to reScene any releases after packed with RAR 5.50, I am wondering how others do it. Yes, I know that such manual reScene is rather a method based on a trial and error. But, I believe that more experienced folks know a few tricks for each Scene Group to begin with. On the other hand, I have a feeling that such command prompts should be pretty similar for each Scene Group (except for a size of a rar and a level of compression that change depending on each release).

Any assistance will be highly appreciated.

Source: forum message on a torrent site

You can try restore m2ts sample using tsmuxer.

mount ISO, load main .m2ts file from your BDMV/STREAM directory (usually it's the biggest one) in tsmuxer

A) set output muxing to m2ts

go to Split & cut tab and select "split duation every 60 sec"

start muxing

stop muxing after creating 10-11 files (Scene groups usually make ranodm 60sec samples from first 10 minutes of movie)

compare sizes & checksums (CRC32) with SRRDB

if you find the one that matches checksums - thats the one!

if none of them matches checksums but sizes are same or very similar try another variants:

B) in Blu-ray tab change 45KHz clock from 0 to 524280, start muxing

if still proper file hasn't been found - try another variant:

C) Input tab: try change "Insert SEI and VUI data if absent" between other options

This method is not 100% perfect: tested 3 COMPLETE.BLURAY releases, only 1 success. I've successfully recreated m2ts sample from
Black.Panther.Wakanda.Forever.2022.MULTi.COMPLETE.BLURAY-AKENATON
using TSmuxerGUI v2.6.12 with settings:

Insert SEI and VUI data if absent [check] Continually insert SPS/PPS Blu-ray: 45KHz clock: 0 Split every 60s

Sometimes srrdb shows info from incomplete sample files - in this case you can't compare checksums.

Is there a way of verifying a (supposedly) complete release using the SRR file?

Let's say I have a folder with a release and I have the SRR file for the release. Can I tell pyReScene to check the whole release, using the information in the SRR file to see that all files have the correct checksum?

I'm not entirely sure that the SRR file actually stores the checksums for the files within, so if it doesn't I guess it would have to calculate it on the fly for the stored files. For samples it can get it from the SRS file. And for the archives they're of course in the SFV file(s).

I think this would be a neat way of quickly being able to verify the integrity of the full release.

Or perhaps there is some other way of accomplishing the same thing. Maybe a tool that scrapes srrDB?

I am using SRRGUI option 2 reconstruct from SRR file. So I put my SRR file path, input and output, rar path and temp file location. I also select the checkbox the directory same file name. All the files are located in the same folder. I get this error.
srrGUI: srr.exe C:\XXX\YYY.srr -l -ypri C:\XXX\ -o C:\XXX\YYY
srrGUI: Process running, please wait…

srrGUI: Process completed. srr.exe exit code = -1073741515

[END OF LOG]
Is the temp path where my temporary files are? I am using this location for my temp files C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Temp\. Nothing is created even when I change the output or temp file location. Every process I select gives me the same error code.

Guys, hello. Your site is the best scene database on the Internet.

About 10 years ago, I was actively interested in collecting music scenereleases (electronic music labels and some favourite artists). To understand which catalog numbers and which scenereleases are in the collection, and which ones are not, I had to maintain my own database in Excel (for example, this is how it looks - https://yadi.sk/i/7rvKefBV5crJsw or https://yadi.sk/d/VfCv_dAPMs_m-g ). There were more and more releases in the collection, I realized that it was impossible to keep the database this way, and temporarily (I thought so, but it's been 8 years already) I stopped collecting labels, as I understood that I needed a site similar to discogs.com, but only for the scenesreleases, where each release, if possible, would have a label, cat#, artist, year, etc., so that then everything would be automatically sorted by this information on the site. Moreover, as for the labels, the scenes of the group, although they themselves often sign the labels and the catalog of the number, but not always, especially the old releases from physical media (vinyls, discs).

In addition, it would be convenient to watch an ordered scene discography by any artist (albums, singles, as well as releases such as live performances, radioshows that are not included anywhere, even on discogs.com.

You have done something similar with the movie: there is the name of the movie and all the releases that relate to this movie are indicated inside, this is very cool!

Are you planning to do the same for music releases like I described above or something similar?

I have a bunch of ideas in my head how to implement this (I mean how it would all look (example - see image), but, alas, not coding, I'm not good at that).

P.S. Sorry for my English, I'm from Russia. Thank you, you are doing a great job keeping the scene alive!

I'm using srrGUI on a laptop and slipped on the touchpad, resulting in me accidentally dragging a folder into another one while selecting the Input Dir Path. This folder I accidentally dragged is now no where to be seen! I did a full search of the entire laptop using Agent Ransack including hidden files/folders and failed to turn up this folder I had dragged into another one!

My conclusion is that srrGUI has bug when selecting using the Input Dir Path popup box, if you drag a folder into another one, it fails to move the folder properly and the NTFS is not updated, resulting in the folder vanishing.

I think I found a bug in the recent pyrescene 0.7. Say, I try to make SRR for a folder with any .log file in it (even empty one):

.\pyrescene.exe "C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\Test\" --best -rd

The program starts to proceed the files and then stops on this error:

Temporary directory: C:\WINDOWS\Temp\SRR-puw7p_fk C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\Test Exception ignored in: <generator object get_release_directories at 0x03564508> RuntimeError: generator ignored GeneratorExit Traceback (most recent call last): File "pyrescene.py", line 1780, in <module> File "pyrescene.py", line 1680, in main File "pyrescene.py", line 916, in generate_srr TypeError: startswith first arg must be str or a tuple of str, not bytes

Everything goes well, if I remove .log file from the folder. I have reproduced this on a test folder with one .sfv, few .flac's and one .log file.

When trying to reconstruct Wargame.Red.Dragon-CODEX, I found that having:

1996-09-02_rar200.exe
1997-03-12_rar201.exe
1997-09-16_rar202.exe

…in the RAR directory caused srrGUI to bug out and fail to progress to trying later versions. Those RAR executables would still be running in Task Manager even after srrGUI errored out. Even though the srrGUI log said it tried an entire list of 2.x versions before erroring out, it doesn't actually try them.

Removing those RAR executables allowed srrGUI to proceed normally.

Hello I am new member. I've read the tutorials and done step by step. But when I wrote this line "srr Bayonetta.Update.1-CODEX.srr -o srr Bayonetta.Update.1-CODEX -p", I received "Input file not found" Error. srr file is created by pyrescene auto 0.6 and I used the same version. What should I do? thanks and sorry for my bad English.

Hello, I'm kinda new to contributing to srrDB but I totally love it. I am a data archivist and collect scene releases already, so I thought why not help out?

Anyway, I was adding some .srr files and noticed that pyReScene does not log .zip or .diz files.

For example, here's iSkysoft.iTransfer.v4.3.1.MacOSX.Cracked.MERRY.XMAS-ARN.

The .zip files in question are, what I would assume, from the original source.

Here's a directory listing:

-rw-r--r--@ 1 readwrite staff 5002265 Jan 6 20:18 aitra431.zip -rw-r--r--@ 1 readwrite staff 5004180 Jan 6 20:18 aitra432.zip -rw-r--r--@ 1 readwrite staff 5004180 Jan 6 20:18 aitra433.zip -rw-r--r--@ 1 readwrite staff 5004180 Jan 6 20:18 aitra434.zip -rw-r--r--@ 1 readwrite staff 5004180 Jan 6 20:18 aitra435.zip -rw-r--r--@ 1 readwrite staff 1386897 Jan 6 20:18 aitra436.zip -rw-r--r--@ 1 readwrite staff 12267 Jan 6 20:18 arn.nfo -rw-r--r--@ 1 readwrite staff 692 Jan 6 20:18 file_id.diz

When uploading and also inspecting the .srr file I noticed the .zip files are not catalogued. Inside each zip is one part of the rar.

Here's a breakdown of aitra431.zip:

-rwxr-xr-x@ 1 readwrite staff 5000000 Dec 25 2017 aitra431.rar* -rwxr-xr-x@ 1 readwrite staff 12267 Dec 25 2017 arn.nfo* -rwxr-xr-x@ 1 readwrite staff 692 Dec 25 2017 file_id.diz*

and aitra432.zip:

-rwxr-xr-x@ 1 readwrite staff 5000000 Dec 25 2017 aitra431.r00* -rwxr-xr-x@ 1 readwrite staff 12267 Dec 25 2017 arn.nfo* -rwxr-xr-x@ 1 readwrite staff 692 Dec 25 2017 file_id.diz*

etc. etc. Extracting every zip will give you the rars you need to make up your main content.

And for the record the file_id.diz and arn.nfo you keep seeing are the same in every .zip and in the main dir. I have seen this several times in the past. Kinda strange, but ok.

In closing, if you could put .zip and .diz support on the pyReScene roadmap, if even possible, it would be truly appreciated!

Hi,
I try to play with release not in DB.
I've NFO, SFV, few original RARs and full ISO (CRC32 is the same according to last RAR part)

I've tried to use rerar but it dosn't seems to work well with compression and produces wrong files.
Is there any other way I could rebuild release? Even manually?
